At the beginning of July 2025, the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol experienced a school visit of a different kind as part of the Alpine Cross Project. During the seven-day Alpine crossing by bicycle organized by the Gymnasiums Landschulheim Marquartstein, sports, team spirit, and study orientation came together.

The University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol regularly welcomes school classes with a varied program of study orientation activities to provide deeper insights into the campus and the extensive range of courses offered by the university – from a tour of the building or laboratories to presentations of the individual fields of study and taster lectures from a specific degree program. The report shows how the Gymnasium Landschulheim Marquartstein stands out from the usual school visits with its FH visit as part of the Alpen-Cross project.

A special project

In June 2025, the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol received a very special request from the Gymnasium Landschulheim Marquartstein: a school class was planning a visit to the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol as part of the Alpen-Cross project seminar. The aim of the project was to cover around 550 kilometers and 10,000 meters of elevation gain by bike within seven days – and to visit various companies, educational institutions, and associations for career and study orientation. The contact was established by a graduate of the high school who is now studying for a bachelor's degree in Leadership & Business Management at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol. Everyone involved was immediately enthusiastic about the idea – an unusual and athletic form of study orientation that also promotes team spirit.

A school visit with a difference

On Saturday, July 1, 2025, the students and their teachers set off on their exciting tour towards the Alps. Kufstein was the first stop on the Alpine crossing (Marquartstein – Kufstein/Thiersee – Zell am Ziller – Pfitscherjoch – Meran – Sterzing – Zell am Ziller – Marquartstein). Upon arrival, the nine students and three teachers were welcomed with a well-deserved and hearty snack. After refreshments, they were given a comprehensive insight into the courses offered by the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol through a presentation, followed by a tour of the building and laboratories. Even an approaching bad weather front could not dampen the good mood. After a group photo, the group set off for Thiersee, where they spent the first night.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the warm welcome and the interesting program. During the Alpine Cross, we often and gladly talked about our visit to the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol,” says Tobias Leineweber, accompanying teacher of the project.

The University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol was also impressed by this inspiring initiative and greatly appreciated the commitment of the teachers and students. The university will be part of the route again next year – both parties are looking forward to the next visit.
