Students enrolled in the master’s program in Web Engineering & IT Solutions at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol visited the IT unit SPAR ICS in Salzburg at the end of the course on e-commerce and e-shopping systems. The focus was on corporate strategies, technological developments, and future trends.
At the end of the integrative course on e-commerce and e-shopping systems in the part-time master's program in Web Engineering & IT Solutions at the Kufstein University of Applied Sciences, students visited the IT unit SPAR ICS – Information & Communication Services – at its headquarters in Salzburg. The aim was to experience the concepts covered in the lecture on e-commerce technologies, architecture, and market mechanisms in practice and to reflect on them with experts from the industry.
Insights into technologies and corporate strategies
The on-site program included a company presentation, exciting insights into current developments, and a technical deep dive. The students actively participated in discussions and were able to directly link numerous topics from the course to practical applications.
Of particular interest was the connection between e-commerce and brick-and-mortar retail, which was evident at SPAR through a variety of digital solutions, such as the SPAR app. The long-term development and complexity of the IT systems behind the products also came as a surprise and sparked intense discussions.
Valuable insights for professional practice
“The excursions are an important part of my course because they make the theoretical content tangible. At SPAR ICS, it became very clear how complex and at the same time practical e-commerce systems are designed. For the students, this is a valuable experience for their future professional practice,” emphasizes course instructor Prof. (FH) Dipl. Informatiker Karsten Böhm.
In addition to technical insights, the students also gained valuable insights into current trends and future developments in the field of e-commerce. This not only provided a deeper understanding of the challenges of scaling but also highlighted the diverse career paths that are opening up through the combination of technology and economics in retail.
The students were also enthusiastic about the successful organization by Elisabeth Trnka and Alexander Maidorfer, whose commitment and excellent support contributed significantly to the success of the visit. The open exchange, practical insights, and pleasant atmosphere made the excursion a special conclusion to the course.
