In mid-April, Stephanie Kogler, PhD, Lukas Hartleif, MA, and Lea Carnuth, MA, from the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol presented current projects on brand management, digitalization, and tourism resilience at the 19th Research Forum in Graz. The event provided an opportunity for professional exchange and new insights from both research and practice.

At the 19th Research Forum of Austrian Universities of Applied Sciences, held on April 15 and 16, 2026, at FH Campus 02 in Graz, Stephanie Kogler, PhD, Lukas Hartleif, MA, and Lea Carnuth, MA, from FH Kufstein Tirol presented their latest research to an audience of experts from across Austria. The focus was on future-oriented issues in business, digitalization, and tourism.

RESEARCH INITIATIVES FROM THREE DISCIPLINES

The range of presentations on display impressively highlighted the diversity of research activities at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol and their relevance to business and society.

  • Consumer-Generated Brands in the Digital Age: Stephanie Kogler, PhD, presented her research on “Consumer-Generated Brands: The Democratization of Brand Management in the Digital Age” during the Market-Driven Business Session track. As part of a project funded by TNF (Tyrolean Young Researchers’ Fund), she is collaborating with Dr. Roland Schroll of the University of Innsbruck to investigate how consumers independently develop brands and establish them in the market. Her presentation focused on a systematic typology that classifies these brand forms based on motivational orientation and market activity, while also highlighting the resulting potential, challenges, and societal implications.

  • Digital Experience Lab & The Impact of Digitalization on Product and Service Design: Lukas Hartleif, MA, presented the work of the Digital Experience Lab at Kufstein University of Applied Sciences (FH Kufstein Tirol) with a poster. He was able to discuss the future potential of generative AI with other conference participants. In addition, the research by Assoc. Prof. (University of Applied Sciences) Mag. Uta Fessler-Purkarthofer, MBA, and Prof. (University of Applied Sciences) Dr. Peter Schneckenleitner on the influence of digitalization on product and service design was presented as a poster. The study addressed the increasingly difficult distinction between services and products.

  • Measuring Resilience in Tourism: Lea Carnuth, MA’s presentation in the Managing Sustainable Innovation track focused on how tourism companies can not only weather crises but also adapt and evolve successfully over the long term. She presented the Resilience Tool, which enables tourism businesses to assess their own resilience and identify vulnerabilities. Concrete recommendations for action support the proactive implementation of measures to increase organizational resilience. The research is part of the Resilient Tourism project, funded by Interreg Bavaria-Austria, which is being implemented in collaboration with the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, Chiemgau GmbH – Tourism, and the Austrian Hotel Association (ÖHV).

RESEARCH WITH PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS

Participation in the Research Forum once again highlighted the visibility and relevance of research activities at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol. The exchange with colleagues from across Austria provided valuable insights for the further development of current research projects.
