The beautiful city of Innsbruck attracts visitors to the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival, where students from the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol have organized exciting side events.

Six students from the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol are bringing a breath of fresh air to the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival 2025 with three side events. In their two-semester project, they developed interactive formats designed to inspire visitors to take a creative interest in environmental and future issues.

Six students from the master's degree program in Sports, Culture & Event Management at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol developed three innovative side events as part of a two-semester practical project in collaboration with Innsbruck Tourism and the innsbruck nature film festival (inff). These complement the festival, which takes place from October 8 to 12, 2025, with creative, educational, and interactive experiences. The aim is to raise visitors' awareness of environmental and sustainability issues in a vivid way.

The Innsbruck Nature Film Festival is one of the most important international festivals for nature and environmental films. For the 24th time, the green carpet will be rolled out at the Metropol Cinema in Innsbruck. The festival will show extraordinary films about nature, climate, and the environment that are designed to inspire reflection, networking, and action. In addition to the film program, the festival offers a variety of innovative events – including the three events conceived by the student group: Sound of Nature, Voices of Disappearance, and Beat the Trash.

From numerous proposals to the final concept

Before the final side events were decided, the students developed and discussed numerous project proposals. After careful selection, Innsbruck Tourism and the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival finally chose the following events:

Sounds of Nature: A matinee offering a unique blend of music and poetry with a nature theme. Students from the Tyrolean State Conservatory present impressive piano pieces, accompanied by poems recited by a well-known Tyrolean actor.

Voices of Disappearance: Pedestrian underpasses are transformed into soundscapes where the calls of endangered animals can be heard. These sound installations are accompanied by information boards explaining the creatures and their habitats.

Beat the Trash: An interactive project with children in which musical instruments are made from trash under expert guidance. These instruments are then presented to the public in a small concert.

Added value for guests and students

The side events are designed to deepen public engagement with nature, create sustainable awareness, and promote intergenerational learning. The events enable participants of all ages to experience nature in creative and interactive ways, raising their awareness of environmental issues and encouraging them to actively contribute to nature conservation.

For the students, the project provided a practical opportunity to organize sustainable events and directly address current challenges in event management. In the process, they gained valuable experience in planning, communication, and teamwork. Thus, the creative side events not only contribute to the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival, but also raise awareness of sustainable event practices – today and in the future.
