Students in the bachelor program in International Economics & Management on a field trip to SWARCO TRAFFIC WORLD in Wattens.
Students from the Bachelor's programme in International Business & Management visited SWARCO in Wattens and explored leading solutions for road markings and intelligent traffic management systems at the SWARCO TRAFFIC WORLD. They gained impressive insights into the company's brand, strategy, and practical work.
Students from the part-time Bachelor's programme in International Business & Management visited the Tyrolean company SWARCO at its Wattens site. The aim of the excursion was to bring strategic connections in international management to life through concrete real-world examples. "Collaborating with flagship companies like SWARCO is a true highlight of the programme. Our students experience first-hand how theoretical concepts play out in real projects — and that builds competence, motivation, and impact," emphasises programme director Peter Dietrich.
On site, the students were welcomed by Sophia Fritsche, Recruiter and HR Specialist, and Markus Mitterecker, Employer Brand Manager. They then gained insight into a corporate group that has grown from Tyrol into a globally leading provider of road markings and intelligent traffic management systems.
Strategic Tasks with a Real-World Focus
At the SWARCO TRAFFIC WORLD, students explored the company's core technologies and solutions — from connected traffic signal systems and traffic management platforms to smart road infrastructures. It became clear how digital applications contribute to efficiently managing traffic flows, reducing congestion, and improving road safety.
Participants then received insights into the group's brand and corporate management. Using concrete examples, SWARCO demonstrated how a clearly defined brand identity influences strategic decisions across different areas of the company and shapes the direction of individual projects. Students were able to apply this knowledge directly in a hands-on case study: they analysed a strategic challenge, developed recommendations for action, and presented their proposals with a focus on brand impact and market potential.
Where Theory Meets Business Reality
The quality of the results also impressed the company representatives: "Your presentations were right on point: clear analyses, well-considered priorities, and a strong feel for the brand. That was at a truly professional level — hats off to everyone involved," praised Markus Mitterecker.
The excursion made clear how closely technological know-how, strategic brand management, and entrepreneurial practice are intertwined — and how valuable real-world insights into these connections are for training the next generation of professionals and leaders.
