Students at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol developed a new communication strategy for the Tyrolean technology company 3CON in the Digital Transformation III course. At the beginning of December 2025, they presented the results of their practical project and introduced strategies with new ideas that are ready for implementation.
During the winter semester of 2025/26, students from the Bachelor's program in International Business Management carried out a practical project with the Tyrolean technology company 3CON as part of the Digital Transformation III course. For many years, the company has been one of the leading suppliers of production equipment for the automotive industry and its suppliers. A few years ago, the founding of 3CON Pharma Medical GmbH opened up a new business area, which is set to be strategically positioned on the market.
SIX GROUPS – SIX PERSPECTIVES ON COMMUNICATION
The project work was divided into six groups, each of which focused on different external stakeholders. In the established automotive sector, the focus was on maintaining existing customer relationships, while in the new pharmaceutical sector, the focus was on acquiring new customers and strengthening brand awareness. In addition, other topics such as sustainability, employer branding, and communication with the local community were addressed, enabling the students to cover a broad spectrum of external stakeholders.
THE DIVERSITY OF PERSPECTIVES HAS SHOWN HOW COMPLEX EXTERNAL COMMUNICATION IS AND HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO TARGET DIFFERENT STAKEHOLDER GROUPS.

“The diversity of perspectives has shown how complex external communication is and how important it is to address different stakeholders in a targeted manner,” explained Hanna and Marietta, project leads for the degree program.
SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION AFTER INTENSIVE PROJECT WEEKS
The project schedule was clearly structured: It kicked off with a visit to 3CON headquarters, where the students got to know the company better. These impressions formed the basis for further project work. In the following weeks, interviews were conducted with experts, key challenges were identified, and initial ideas for communication strategies were developed. On December 1, the groups presented their interim results to 3CON for the first time. The highlight was the final presentation on December 9, where the students presented their strategies and implementation proposals. In addition to classic concepts, creative approaches such as campaign designs, AI-supported advertising videos, and innovative communication formats also impressed.
“It is precisely this kind of in-depth collaboration, such as the project with 3CON, that enables our students to gain hands-on experience, work in a team and under time pressure, receive direct feedback, and think outside the box - and is therefore at the heart of what we want to achieve with our teaching,” says program director Prof. (FH) Dr. Peter Dietrich, who accompanied the project as a lecturer and coach.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO IMPLEMENTING MANY OF THESE IDEAS DIRECTLY INTO OUR BUSINESS PRACTICES IN THE COMING MONTHS.

The project was also a complete success for 3CON and provides valuable impetus for future communications work. "The students approached the topic with a level of professionalism and dedication that went far beyond the norm. We were particularly impressed by their strong entrepreneurial thinking and the initiative they showed in analyzing our specific challenges. The proposals and strategic recommendations they developed are extremely valuable to us. We will now reflect on these internally and look forward to implementing many of the ideas directly into our business practices in the coming months," concluded Georg Kapfinger (COO, 3CON), Stefan Heidenberger (Head of Administration, 3CON), and Raphaël Muschalla (Head of Marketing & Communications, 3CON).
The successful completion of the communication strategy for 3CON impressively demonstrates what knowledge transfer between universities and industry looks like in practice.
