- Practical Project
The practical project Art unplugged – the special painting workshop created an open and safe space for artistic ideas and concluded the evening with many wonderful pieces of art created by the participants.
The practical project Art unplugged, part of the bachelor's degree program in Sport, Culture & Event Management, challenged participants to be creative. In a carousel format, they created new works of art under the guidance of artist Thea Barth. A change of perspective with surprising results.
On 23 January 2025, Kufstein became the stage for a creative experiment: The painting event Art unplugged invited people to experience art differently under the motto Connect, Create, Collaborate – far away from digital distractions and with a focus on collaboration. Kufstein artist Thea Barth was on hand to support the participants with her expertise and provided inspiration for the artistic work.
A special highlight of the evening was the carousel format: at fixed intervals, the screens were passed on to the next person. This resulted in works that were created collaboratively by several artists. The changing perspectives and spontaneous additions brought a whole new dynamic to the creative process and not only encouraged creativity, but also team spirit.
ENJOY OFFLINE TIME
From the moment guests were welcomed with an aperitif, made possible by a collaboration with a local winemaker, it was clear that Art unplugged was more than just an art workshop. The workshop was all about a relaxed atmosphere, far away from the digital world. The participants were to feel how valuable time spent together offline can be. Thea Barth guided the evening and encouraged the budding artists to give free rein to their own ideas. The works were not created alone: in groups and without cell phones, everyone set to work. Five tables were set up with canvases and a selection of different motif ideas. At regular intervals, Thea Barth gave the signal to change: the canvases were passed on, creating a creative exchange.
The atmosphere and the people were great, it felt warm and cozy in every way, and I didn't have to think about the university at all for a whole evening.
A participant about the event.
At the end, the groups presented their pictures and shared their experiences. The results were quite impressive, and the participants proudly took their jointly created works of art home with them.
GREEN LIGHT FOR AN ART UNPLUGGED 2.0?
The feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing a desire for a repeat of this unique format. For the students who organized Art unplugged as part of a practical project, the implementation was also a valuable experience. They were particularly grateful for the support of their project coach Michael Sowa. The event not only offered them the opportunity to gain practical experience, but also to express their own creativity and implement innovative event ideas.
Student Martje Ranis encourages future semesters to use the practical projects as an opportunity to try out new things and create something new. She also shared valuable insights and tips: “You should always bear in mind that new projects, especially in the area of marketing, often involve a higher workload. It is important to plan for sufficient time and not to give up too quickly.”
Thanks to committed sponsors, the event was not only realized, but also expanded in terms of content. The companies supported the project not only financially, but also ideally – especially because Art unplugged, as an inclusive cultural project, offered a safe space for all participants.
Will it be continued? The enthusiasm of all involved speaks for it!
