For the practical project City Stories, pupils use the Actionbound app to discover historical sites in Kufstein - inspired by an old diary and the story of young Friederike.

What does it take to get children excited about city history? An adventure and a dash of poetry. With an app and a fictional diary from the 19th century, students embarked on an exciting journey through time. They explored Kufstein and discovered the history of their city in a playful way.

At the end of June 2025, Kufstein's old town became an adventure playground for four classes from the Bundesgymnasium Bundesrealgymnasium Kufstein secondary school. They took part in an interactive scavenger hunt, exploring the history of the town in a playful way. Equipped with the Actionbound app and accompanied by a fictional diary, the students solved puzzles, answered quiz questions, and followed poetic diary entries from station to station. The approximately two-hour tour took them through the old town, directly to historical sites whose stories they could discover and explore for themselves.

Using Friederike's digital diary, students embarked on an exciting scavenger hunt through Kufstein's city history.

As part of a practical project, students on the part-time bachelor's degree program in Sports, Culture, and Event Management at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol developed a creative method to bring city history to life - and thus create a lasting experience that will remain in people's memories for a long time to come.

A DIARY AS A COMPASS THROUGH HISTORY

The fictional diary of a girl named Friederike, who lived in Kufstein in the 19th century, was the focus of the hunt. Her entries led the kids on a two-hour search for clues through the old town. Each station began with a short rhyming diary entry, followed by a puzzle or a knowledge quiz. This allowed the children to discover the content in a playful way and find their own way to the next station.

IT WAS WONDERFUL TO SEE HOW MOTIVATED AND FOCUSED THE CHILDREN WERE.

LEARNING WITH AN APP AND ADVENTURE

Equipped with the app, the students navigated independently from station to station. Each task they solved brought them closer to the next page of the diary - and ultimately to the solution word, which could be exchanged for a small reward.

“It was wonderful to see how motivated and focused the children were,” says one of the project participants from the organizing team. The aim of the campaign was to bring history to life where it happened—in the alleys, in the squares, and through the stories of the city itself. The project combines education with leisure and at the same time raises awareness of Kufstein's cultural heritage.
