An eventful week full of academic and cultural highlights was experienced by the part-time students of the International Business Management degree program at HOK | University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol during a field trip to Valencia and Madrid. The goal was to connect theoretical course contents with practical experiences and to get to know international economic relations firsthand on site.
Port Logistics Up Close: The Port de Valencia
The kick-off was an exclusive guided tour of the Port de Valencia, where participants gained insights into the operations of international port logistics and the importance of the location for European trade. A particular highlight was the tour of a large container ship, which provided students with a practice-oriented access to global supply chains. This day was complemented by a city tour that offered a first overview of Valencia's cultural and historical features.
What I'll remember most about the study trip is the camaraderie within our year group. From the harbor tour to the final evening at the rooftop bar: we truly experienced the week as a team.

A key part of the program was the day trip to Madrid. Visits to Advantage Austria and the Austrian Embassy were on the agenda, providing valuable insights into international economic relations and diplomatic cooperation. A tour of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and a guided city tour of Madrid also contributed to a comprehensive impression of the Spanish capital.
INFRASTRUCTURE AND INNOVATION IN VALENCIA
Further stops in Valencia included the metro control center, where modern traffic management and infrastructure management were discussed, as well as a visit to a regional citrus farm. Here, the students were able to experience the entire value chain – from cultivation to export – firsthand.
The Bernabéu was an absolute highlight for me personally. Seeing the club's entire history and its successes was a very special experience. I also found the visit to the citrus farm in Valencia equally exciting. We were allowed to taste different varieties and even pick some ourselves.

In addition to the academic content, the study trip also offered opportunities for cultural experiences and exchange. Activities such as a visit to the City of Arts and Sciences and a boat trip strengthened the group's cohesion. The trip concluded with a final gathering at a rooftop bar in the city center, where the participants reflected on the week's experiences.
The students' reactions clearly demonstrate what an impressive experience it was. Benjamin Kljajic expresses his enthusiasm: "Everything was perfectly organized – from the schedule to the transfers, everything was meticulously planned. You could tell how much preparation had gone into it. For me, it was one of the best weeks of my entire degree program." And Roman Leitner adds: "The combination of major sights and small, authentic experiences made the trip unforgettable for me."
CONCLUSION: LEARNING WITH AN INTERNATIONAL VIEW
The study trip impressively demonstrated how practical learning and intercultural experiences can be combined, and left a lasting impression on all participants.
