Learning outcomes of the courses/module

The participants:
• can classify central legal concepts and functions of law in a business context.
• develop a basic understanding of business law questions.
• can apply the fundamentals of contract law to simple business cases and name important types of contracts.
• understand the fundamentals of civil, company, commercial, and corporate law in order to make an initial legal assessment of business-relevant matters.

Prerequisites for the course

Course content

• Introduction to the Austrian legal system
• Basic concepts and functions of law
• Structure and sources of law (statutes, regulations, customary law, case law)
• Differences between public law and private law
• Fundamentals of contract law (formation of contracts, declarations of intent, breaches of performance)
• Overview of business-relevant types of contracts
• Introduction to company law and commercial law
• Overview of corporate law with cross-references to general business administration (legal form, location choice, business combinations, etc.)
