Learning outcomes of the courses/module
The participants:
• develop a basic understanding of sociology and its relation to sports, culture and leisure.
• will be able to understand and explain fundamental concepts and theories within sociology such as the cultural production of meaning, difference and the structure behind power systems.
• will be able to apply them to real world issues in sports, culture and leisure – including as it relates to social class, status, ethnicity and gender.
• will be able to understand and evaluate academic texts from the fields of sociology and reflect on how sociological knowledge can influence professional practice.

Course content
The concepts, theories and findings of sociology are presented and situated within the background of potential professional fields in the context of sports and cultural management. Key sociological ideas about the structure and evolution of societies are presented and discussed, as are key sociological concepts related to social divisions pertaining to class, status, ethnicity and gender.
