Learning outcomes of the courses/module
The participants:
• develop a fundamental understanding of qualitative research methods (in particular data collection, analysis and interpretation).
• learn to apply these methods in a practical manner and to present and evaluate the results of empirical studies.
• are also able to understand technical texts on qualitative research methods in order to absorb and critically reflect on findings from qualitative studies in their future professional activities.

Course content
The concepts and methods of qualitative social research are introduced and practiced through interactive activities, in particular conducting interviews and performing thematic analysis. The value of qualitative research, its philosophical underpinnings and alternative data collection methods are also discussed and reflected upon. In the end, students will be able to understand and apply the basic methods of qualitative social research.
