Learning outcomes of the courses/module

The participants:
• analyze the structure, functions and decision-making procedures of key European institutions in the context of energy- and sustainability-related legislation.
• evaluate the effect of institutional interactions within the EU on energy- and climate-policy legal acts and transformation processes.
• interpret international and European legal sources and derive their significance for companies and public organizations in energy & sustainability management.
• examine the role of international institutions and compare their influence with that of the EU on global energy and sustainability governance.

Prerequisites for the course

Basic knowledge of the legal systems in the students' countries of origin

Course content

- European and international institutions
- International agreements relevant to energy & sustainability management
- EU legislative and decision-making processes
- Legal acts in the energy and sustainability field
- Governance and compliance with the implementation of European requirements in companies, oversight by European and national regulatory authorities, and requirements in the area of ESG and sustainability reporting
- Case studies on the influence of European institutions on energy prices, emissions trading, supply chain law and climate litigation before the European Court of Justice
