Introduction

Learning outcomes of the courses/module

The participants:
• analyze the fundamental concepts of sustainable development and structure their ecological, social and economic dimensions within simple systems models.
• assess basic ecological concepts as well as the fundamental mechanisms of climate change, and derive initial connections between anthropogenic drivers and systemic changes.
• compare social and technological transformation processes and develop well-founded assessments of their significance for sustainable development.
• examine principles of resilience in ecological, technical and social systems and evaluate fundamental strategies for strengthening adaptability and robustness.
• integrate sustainability, transformation and ecosystem dynamics into an initial, scientifically grounded overall understanding and formulate basic conclusions for sustainable courses of action.
