Learning outcomes of the courses/module
The participants:
• will be able to explain and critically discuss the potential contribution – and limitations - of sport to social development, including as it relates to health, social cohesion, economic development and more.
• will be able to differentiate between the potential benefits accrued from active and passive engagement with sport.
• will be able to assess the necessary pre-conditions for sport and sport-based programs to achieve social outcomes as well as plan potential sport projects related to social development.

Course content
Key concepts underpinning sport and social development are presented and critically discussed. The potential social outcomes of sport will be presented, and the conditions for positive outcomes discussed. The different forms of sport-based social initiative will be presented, and concrete steps in their planning and delivery will be outlined.
