Learning outcomes of the courses/module

The participants:
• describe key concepts of sustainability assessment and explain basic sustainability indicators.
• analyze ecological, social and economic assessment criteria and apply basic sustainability methods to simple case examples.
• create basic life cycle assessments or eco-balances and interpret their results.
• examine material and resource flows and evaluate resource use against defined sustainability benchmarks.
• use common sustainability assessment tools such as the ecological footprint, multi-criteria assessment or basic ESG evaluations and derive recommendations for sustainable resource management from them.

Course content

- Sustainability assessment, including basic concepts, indicators and evaluation logics
- Ecological, social and economic assessment methods, with analysis of the fundamental sustainability dimensions
- Life cycle assessment and eco-balancing, including the creation of simple life cycle analyzes and the evaluation of selected scenarios
- Material and resource management, including basic material and energy flows and sustainable resource criteria
- Resource strategies in energy and sustainability management, including approaches for resource-efficient consumption and sustainable prioritisation
- Sustainability assessment tools such as the ecological footprint, multi-criteria assessment and basic ESG evaluations
