Scientific work
Niveau
second cycle Master
Learning outcomes of the courses/module
Students develop an advanced understanding of scientific work and the research process. They are able to identify and apply key elements of scientific papers, including research questions, research gaps, theoretical frameworks, argumentation structures, and conclusions. Through the analysis of selected scientific papers, students deepen their understanding of the relationship between research questions, methodological approaches, data analysis, and interpretation of results. They grasp fundamental principles of scientific evaluation and are able to understand and discuss their significance for addressing research questions.
Prerequisites for the course
Basic features and techniques of scientific work (bachelor level)
Course content
The course provides advanced knowledge in the area of scientific work. Students engage with the structure, content, format, and verbal presentation of scientific studies at a advanced level. The focus is on the development and structuring of complex research questions, as well as the fundamental design and evaluation of appropriate research methodologies.
In addition, students analyze scientific papers with regard to argumentation structure, research logic, and presentation of results, deepening their understanding of principles for scientific analysis and interpretation.
The practical application of these skills prepares students, both formally and methodologically, for the preparation of their master’s thesis. This also includes the discussion and critical examination of the scientific methodology of a master’s thesis. To support students in identifying relevant and high-quality research questions, potential topics and hypotheses are explored and discussed.
