Introductory

Learning outcomes of the courses/module

The participants:
• identify the key technical systems of a building and describe their basic operating principles and functions in building operation.
• analyze the interrelationships between building services, user requirements and facility management processes and highlight the central interfaces in operation.
• compare basic operating and maintenance models for technical systems and explain how these affect cost-effectiveness, safety and availability.
• formulate simple technical specifications and service level agreements for selected technical systems and structure criteria for their assessment.
• name the central duties of operator responsibility and develop initial risk-based conclusions for safe building operation.

Prerequisites for the course

Course content

- Overview of building systems (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, elevators) as well as basic terminology and simple operating principles (without in-depth engineering)
- Maintenance, inspection, repair - basic principles of upkeep
- Key legal foundations in facility management
- SLAs & specifications of services with a technical focus
