Learning outcomes of the courses/module

The participants:
• will be able to differentiate various cultural concepts and critically evaluate the implying value concepts.
• will be able to assess the innovation potential of artistic production for society .
• will be able to analyze decision-making processes in cultural management and their relation to economy, politics and education.
• will be able to distinguish between public institutions and the creative industries.
• will be able to differentiate legal frameworks, funding structures and organizational forms of cultural organizations.
• will be able to describe and analyze the relationship between audiences and cultural organizations.
• will be able to develop target group-specific cultural mediation concepts.
• will be able to apply various change management strategies to cultural institutions.
• will be able to implement audience development into cultural organizations.

Course content

Students gain fundamental insights into various fields of cultural management and deal intensively with the central tasks of cultural management. These include: Fundamentals of cultural policy, economic characteristics of the cultural sector (profit and non-profit), different financing and funding concepts, current cultural mediation and cultural education practices, audience development and change management as well as different cultural leadership models. These aspects are not only considered in an international comparison, but also in their mutual interdependence and are intensively examined using case studies. All of this is done using an approach that is critical of discrimination and sensitive to diversity.
