AI in the transformation of knowledge management

Prof. (FH) Dipl.-Inform. Karsten Böhm from the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol presented his research on generative AI at the European Conference on Knowledge Management (ECKM) in Lahti, Finland.

At the European Conference on Knowledge Management in Finland, Prof. (FH) Dipl.-Inform. Karsten Böhm from the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol presented current research on human-AI collaboration - in the middle of a tangible spirit of optimism.

from around the world gathered in Lahti, Finland, to discuss current developments and future issues in knowledge management at the European Conference on Knowledge Management (ECKM). Among them was Prof. (FH) Dipl.-Inform. Karsten Böhm, Professor of Business Informatics at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol, who presented the latest findings from his research in the field of generative artificial intelligence (AI).

Artificial intelligence is changing knowledge work

Böhm was particularly impressed by the keynote speech given by Finnish scientist Paavo Ritala, who highlighted the role of AI in knowledge work. “You could clearly sense that something was changing in the community – a spirit of optimism in an already established field of research,” said Böhm. Many researchers were addressing the question of how generative AI models could change our understanding of knowledge acquisition, learning, and innovation.

With his own contribution, Böhm, together with co-author Prof. Dr. Susanne Durst from Reykjavík University, introduced a new concept into the discussion: so-called Humanized Interaction Fields (HIF). These describe how humans and AI systems can work together in a shared digital space and thus co-create knowledge.

Research with vision: Humans and AI in dialogue

“We are currently seeing that AI is no longer just a tool, but is becoming an active partner in knowledge work,” explains Böhm. The goal is to harmonize the strengths of both sides - human creativity and machine precision.

For the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol, participation in the ECKM also means maintaining a presence in an international research environment and actively shaping the discourse on the future of knowledge management. “Our strength lies precisely in the combination of practical relevance and scientific reflection,” emphasizes Böhm.
